Hungary farm gate prices fall 5.7pc in October

Farm gate prices in Hungary fell 5.7pc year-on-year in October, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said. Prices of crops fell 6.1pc, while prices of livestock and animal products were down 5.2pc. Grain prices were 7.3pc lower in October. Prices of industrial crops were down 1.8pc as prices of oil seeds edged up 0.2pc. Potato prices dipped 18.9pc. Prices of fresh vegetables rose 2.4pc and fruit prices fell 19.1pc. Live cattle prices fell 11.8pc, hog prices were down 11.1pc and poultry prices were down 3.5pc. Egg prices rose 5.2pc and milk prices fell 3.6pc. The farm gate price of milk has been falling steadily since peaking at HUF 114 a litre in February, KSH said. In January-October 2014, farm gate prices fell 6.0pc from a year earlier as prices of crops dipped 9.4pc and prices of live animals and animal products edged down 0.4pc.
