Hungary GDP growth could reach 2.8-2.9pc this year

Hungary’s government estimates GDP growth could reach 2.8pc-2.9pc this year, National Economy Minister Mihaly Varga said at a conference organised by business association MGYOSZ. The government’s official projection for GDP growth this year is 2.5pc at present. Mr Varga said the government would introduce a new, customer-friendly tax system. A new law on tax procedure will come into force from the start of next year, he added. „We expect behaviour from the National Tax and Customs Authority (NAV) that does not slow, but helps economic growth, and supports economic players,” he said. The government wants to lift the responsibility from Hungarians of preparing their own personal income tax returns by 2017, Mr Varga said.
