Direct EU payments to Hungarian farmers climb to EUR 683m in 2009

The money was paid to more than 185.000 farmers, but 42pc were paid less than EUR 500 apiece. Seventy producers were paid more than EUR 500.000 and a further 340 got EUR 200.000-500.000. A total of EUR 39bn in EU support was paid to about 8m farmers in the EU in 2009. The most – EUR 8,2bn – went to France. German farmers received EUR 5,5bn and Spanish farmers EUR 5,1bn.
