Aufwind starts building biggest biogas plant in Hungary

Construction of the 4.2MW plant is supported by HUF 500m in European Union and government funding. The plant, to be completed within a year, will use 132.000 tonnes of feedstock – some to be supplied by neighbouring agribusiness Gallicoop Pulykafeldolgozo – to generate an annual 27.6m kWh of electricity as well as heat energy. A plant of similar size in Germany would require at least 100-150 suppliers, but the plant in Szarvas will need at most 30, said managing director of Aufwind Neue Energien Ferdinand Schmack. Aufwind Neue Energien operates 23 biogas plans in Germany, Spain and Poland. The company has annual revenue of EUR 4.5m.
