Export price of Hungarian lamb up 20pc
Sheep Product Council President Arpad Bator said Easter lamb export prices are 18.5pc higher than last year, rising EUR 0.5 from EUR 2.7/kg last year. The stock of lamb and sheep fell 25pc from last year and the number of ewes is down 10pc due to fields flooded by inland water and higher feed prices. Feeding costs rose 70-80pc in recent years, Mr Bator added. Domestic per capita consumption of lamb is insignificant, at just 0.2-02.5kg per year, accounting for 0.5pc of annual meat consumption.
