Govt official initiates withdrawal of equestrian industry decree

The Rural Development Ministry’s state secretary for parliamentary affairs has initiated the withdrawal of recently enacted legislation on equestrian activities. State secretary Gyula Budai said that he asked for the withdrawal of the Economy Ministry degree governing equestrian activities in a letter to Mihaly Varga, who heads the portfolio, at the end of last year. According to horse professionals, stricter regulation stipulated in the decree will not support the aim of the National Equestrian Programme: to make the horse business sustainable, he explained. The affected parties will meet on January 8 to discuss steps to take if the decree is withdrawn, he said. Horse professionals have complained that the decree requires those offering equestrian services to stable at least five horses and meet other strict conditions. The decree could push many smaller family stables out of business, they said.
