Hungary farm gate price rise accelerates to 16.9pc in September
September crop prices were 19.2pc higher than twelve months earlier, and livestock and animal products prices were up 12.7pc, with crop prices rising more and the rise of animal products prices little changed compared to the respective increases registered in August. Farm gate prices fell year-on-year until June 2010 before starting to rise at a double-digit pace in July 2010. In a breakdown by crop type, farm gate prices of cereals, including seeds, were 26.6pc higher in September than a year earlier. Just as in August, the increase was moderate compared to rises in the previous months, when prices more than doubled in February and March and price rises ranged between 76.8pc and 87.6pc in April-June. Prices of industrial crops were up 28.8pc, including a 20.6pc rise in oil seed prices, with the former accelerating and the latter slowing down from the previous month. Industrial crop prices were mainly boosted by a sharp rise in sugar beet prices, KSH said. Potato prices fell 44.9pc after dropping 42.7pc in August, both drops coming after steep rises one year earlier. Up to May, potato prices were well over their level one year earlier. Fruit prices rose 13.7pc, slowing from a 18.3pc increase in August. Prices of fresh vegetables were down 3.1pc yr/yr in September after falling 14.0pc in August, dropping yr/yr for the fifth month in a row. Among livestock and animal product prices, the price of cattle for slaughter rose 54.1pc in the twelve months to September, accelerating from 37.3pc in August, the price of live hogs increased 4.5pc, also picking up from the previous month, and poultry prices were up 13.8pc, slowing down from the previous month. Milk prices climbed 14.5pc, the price increase slowing down from August. Fresh egg prices rose 6.6pc from a year earlier after year-on-year declines for twelve months in a row. January-September farm gate prices were up 28.5pc yr/yr, as crop prices rose 37.1pc and livestock and animal products prices rose 14.1pc in the period.
