Hungarian farm gate prices drop 0.6pc in May

Farm gate prices rose yr/yr in January and February after 16 months of decline. Farm gate prices in the first five months were down 0.6pc from a year earlier as crop prices rose 0.5pc and livestock and animal product prices fell 2.5pc in the period. Farm gate prices fell 9.5pc in 2009 as crop prices fell 12.7pc and livestock and animal product prices fell 4.6pc from 2008. Farm gate prices of cereal crops were down 0.9pc yr/yr in May 2010. The farm gate price of maize has been higher than that of wheat since January and was HUF 2,010-per-ton higher than wheat in May. Farm gat prices of live animals fell 6.3pc yr/yr in May, when the price of live hogs dropped 13.8pc and that of live cattle declined 4.1pc, while that of live poultry rose 0.9pc compared to May 2009. Farm gate prices of animal products rose 11.2p yr/yr in May, when the price of eggs rose 5.2pc and the price of milk rose 14.0pc compared to May 2009.
