ECPA Food Supply Forum

These factors are intersecting to ensure that food security will be a hot topic of growing concern to society, policymakers and the media. How we protect our food supply from pests and disease is a critical, if not widely recognized, element in the food equation, not only contributing to a steady supply of affordable nutrition, but also to how we will adapt to a warmer world, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote biodiversity and conserve water resources. However, the view that advanced agricultural technologies have an important role to play in meeting these world challenges is passionately opposed by many participants in the European public, media and policy discourse. We are organizing this event to put the issues on the table and arrive at a more rational, perhaps provocative but definitely constructive outcome, posing the question: Would we really be better off without pesticides? The event will start with a keynote address by Professor John Beddington, UK Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Head of the Government Office for Science which will be followed by a panel debate moderated by Neil Parish, Former Chairman of the European Parliament Agriculture Committee and Parliamentary candidate for Tiverton and Honiton.

Please join us and make your contribution to what promises to be a very informative and lively day.
