Hungary wheat harvest set to reach 4.0m tonnes

Farmers have harvested 72pc of the 1,081,000 hectares on which wheat was planted, Mr Czervan said. Average yield has been 3.7 tonnes per hectare so far, down from 4.2 tonnes in 2011, he added. The quality of the wheat is good, and in many places it is excellent, he said. The barley harvest has practically wound up, with farmers bringing in 670,000 tonnes. Average yield was 3.8 tonnes per hectare, down from 4.0 tonnes last year.
