Unilever Magyarorszag plans HUF 2.2bn of investments at ice cream plant

Unilever Magyarorszag will build 7,500sqm of cold storage and expand its packaging plant, among other investments, Mr Szatori said. The company was awarded a HUF 558m grant from the New Szechenyi Plan to support the investment. Unilever Magyarorszag wants to expand its ice cream capacity from an annual 75m litres to 90m by 2015, Mr Szatori said. The company made a hundred new hires in 2011, after inaugurating a 3,500sqm production expansion in 2010. Headcount was 560 until then. Mr Szatori said 65 more people would be hired to work at the new cold storage capacity. The plant in Veszprem makes three-quarters of all Algida brand ice cream products. More than 90pc of output is exported to Western Europe. Unilever Magyarorszag, which also has a cleaning solutions plant and a food plant in Hungary, had revenue of more than HUF 70bn in 2010. It expects turnover to be similar in 2011.
