Rolls-Royce wins second order for fish feed ship

The vessel has been ordered by Norwegian company Eidsvaag and will operate a schedule to ensure fish are fed at the same time every week, regardless of weather conditions. The gas-powered NVC 401 forage carrier incorporates a variety of features to reduce environmental impact while increasing efficiency. It will reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40pc compared with similar diesel-powered ships. Rolls-Royce will supply all the main systems and equipment, as well as the ship design. These include a Bergen C-Series engine powered by liquid natural gas (LNG), a wave-piercing bow and a Promas propulsion system that combines a propeller and a rudder. Rolls-Royce will also supply a dynamic positioning (DP) system, which uses satellite technology to hold the ship in position during the offloading of fish feed.
