Hungary destroys acres of GM corn
Hungarian officials have destroyed some 1,000 acres of corn which was found to be genetically modified.
GMOs are banned in Hungary due to health and environmental concerns. And a law passed in March requires that all seeds must first be examined to determine if they are genetically modified before they are sold to farmers.
Monsanto, a leader in GMO seed production, had appealed to a Hungarian court to suspend the new resolution, but the government decided to plough in the affected corn to prevent further GMO contamination.
