Hungarian Christmas tree growers cut first trees of season

The first trees cut by growers in Zala County, in western Hungary, are bound for Italy and Spain as well as the other side of Hungary, Christmas tree farmers said. Growers are getting about the same prices for the trees they have been getting for ten years, said Surd-based Christmas tree farmer Jozsef Domotorfy. Zsolt Bebok, a grower based in Nemespatro, said farm gate prices are about one-third of market prices. Wholesalers pay HUF 2.000-4.000 (EUR 17,3-14,6) for a 1-2 metre Nordmann Fir, a popular Christmas tree in Hungary.
