Hungary producer prices drop on stronger forint in March

Domestic industrial sales prices in rose 0.5pc from February to March and were up 1.2pc from March 2009. The monthly rise slowed compared to the previous two months but domestic industrial sales prices still has risen (except for no change in December) now for the fifth month in a row. Forint-term exports prices fell 0.9pc in a month in March after a similar rise, going parallel with a weakening of the forint, in February. March export prices, calculated in forint terms, were down 7.9pc yr/yr. The forint strengthened 2.1pc to the euro and 1.2pc against the US dollar from February to March, and it firmed 12.8pc to the euro and 16.2pc against the dollar from a sharply weaker forint in March 2009. January-March industrial producer prices fell 2.3pc from a year earlier as export prices fell 5.3pc and domestic sales prices rose 0.9pc in the period. Industrial prices rose 4.9pc in 2009 after a 5.3pc increase in 2008.
