Hungary projects big rise in geothermal energy

About 4.48 petajoules of geothermal energy was generated in Hungary last year. The amount is set to rise to 22.42 petajoules by 2020. Geothermal energy use is expected to really pick up in the second half of the decade, Mr Bencsik said. The government will soon introduce a system for subsidising purchases of energy generated using renewable resources based on technology and scale, he said. The subsidies will be paid out over 15 years, regardless of technology, he added. Detailed regulations on the matter are expected to be drawn up by the end of May and a draft sent to Brussels for approval, he said.
