Hungary retail meat product sales rise to HUF 214bn in 2010

Sales of sausage made up 16pc, and ham, sandwich meat and bacon each accounted for about 9pc. Spreadable liver sausage and sandwich cream, smoked meats and salami accounted for the next biggest market shares. The average retail price of meat products, weighted for the size of the purchase, was HUF 1,259 in November-December, down from HUF 1,271 in the same period a year earlier. Prices for the products have fallen in a year-on-year comparison since March 2010, Nielsen said. Brand products accounted for 69-73pc of total sales in November-December, up from 67-71pc a year earlier. About 73pc of meat products sales were made in stores with more than 200sqm last year, down from 76pc in 2009. The percentage sold in stores with 50sqm or less rose to 7pc.
