Hungary retail sales drop accelerates to 7.8pc in November

Twelve-month retail sales volume dropped 7.3pc in September, 7.2pc in August and 6.6pc in July. The figure has dropped each month since February 2007. In a month-on-month comparison, retail sales fell 0.8pc in November, according to seasonally- and calendar year-adjusted figures, after a 0.6pc fall in October. In January-November, retail sales volume was down 5.0pc from the same period a year earlier. Retail sales – including sales of vehicle fuel, in line with revised European Union statistical classifications – totalled HUF 617.5bn in November, at current prices, down from HUF 641bn in October. Retail sales came to HUF 6,524bn in January-November. Food sales fell 6.6pc in November from the same month a year earlier. They dropped 4.0pc in January-November. Non-food sales were down 11.1pc in November and fell 8.4pc in January-November. Fuel sales dipped 1.5pc in November and were almost unchanged in January-November. Car and car parts sales, which are not included in retail sales data, plunged 46.4pc in November and were down 40.7pc in January-November.
