Hungary sells carbon-dioxide quota to Japanese firm

Ms Olt emphasised that this amount must be spent on climate-protection developments, just as the proceeds from earlier quota sales. Hungary has sold 2m tonnes and 6.6m tonnes of carbon-dioxide quota to Belgium and Spain since 2008, respectively, which generated revenues of HUF 28bn. This amount can be spent for climate-protection purposes. The ministry made the transaction public after parliamentary commissioner Sandor Fulop in a report published on Tuesday highlighted several mistakes and law infringements in connection with spending of revenues from quota sales and establishment of the Green Investment System. The report was the result of an investigation initiated by the environment protection organisation Energy Club.
