More than half of employers plan to freeze wages

The survey showed that those employers who intend to increase wages in 2010 plan to do so by an average of 5.2pc, while those who intend to decrease wages next year plant to do so by an average of 13pc. In a breakdown by employment categories, 42pc of the employers participating in the survey said they planned to raise the wages of employees with post-secondary diplomas in 2010, while 40pc of employers said they planned to raise the wages of manual laborers. On the other hand, only 32-33pc said they planned to raise the wages of upper management and those employed in the commercial sphere. 12pc said they planned to decrease the wages of upper management by an average of 17pc in 2010. DGS Global Research, an organizational-development and HR-management consultancy, said that the 600 employers participating in the survey employ more than 5.5pc of all employees in Hungary.
