Poultry Product Council uncovers infected egg extract shipments from Italy
The council said Italian liquid egg extract was sold for half the usual HUF 800,000 (EUR 3,017) per tonne price. The council added, that the infected egg extract poses no public-health danger, because heat destroys the salmonella and the extract is never used raw. Hungarian farmers produce 2.5-2.7bn eggs per year, while another 200-250m are imported to Hungary. About 9pc of domestic eggs are processed as egg extract to be used by bakers and cake makers.
