Agricultural Directorate expects maize harvest of 8.1m tonnes

The KSH reported in January that farmers in Hungary had harvested 6.97m tonnes of maize in 2010. Autumn wheat is being grown on 952,000 hectares, 59,000 less than a year before. Almost 94pc, 896,000 hectares, have already been harvested, with a yield of 4,238kg per hectare. Yields vary between 3,551 and 4,770kg per hectare in Hungary. About 3.8m tonnes have been harvested, MgSzH said. Maize is grown on 1,224,000 hectares, 145,000 more than a year before. The July 27 estimate shows a 6,622 kilogramme yield per hectare.
