Farm gate prices for cereals fell 44.4pc as part of a trend reversal of a big price increase started in 2007, KSH noted. The price of oil seeds dropped 24.0pc. In March 2008, oil seed prices jumped 61.9pc yr/yr. Prices for potatoes rose 2.1pc, while fresh vegetable prices slipped 2.9pc,. Farm gate prices for livestock rose 2.2pc, as hog prices rose 15.2pc, cattle prices climbed 12.1pc and poultry prices slid 10.4pc. Egg prices were up 3.3pc and milk prices were down 26.8pc. First-quarter farm gate prices dropped 28.7pc from the same period a year earlier as crop prices fell 38.5pc and livestock prices decreased 4.5pc. Livestock prices rose 3.5pc as hog prices climbed 16.6pc and cattle prices increased 10.5pc, but poultry prices dropped 9.2pc. Milk prices fell 27.6pc and egg prices were up 4.0pc. Cereal prices fell 49.7pc and oil seed prices slipped 5.1pc. Potato prices were down 10.9pc and fruit prices declined 35.2pc. First-quarter input prices fell 2.1pc, resulting in a 27.2pc deterioration in terms of trade. Prices of goods and services fell 3.1pc as feed prices dropped 21.1pc, but prices for fertilizers and insecticides rose 24.8pc and 7.7pc respectively. Prices of buildings and machinery rose 4.5pc.
