Food prices in Hungary 79pc of EU average

Food prices in neighbouring Slovakia were 81pc of the EU average and in the Czech Republic they were 75pc of the average. Food price were far cheaper in Romania, at 66pc of the EU average, and in Poland: at 64pc of the average, the cheapest prices in Europe. In a breakdown by foodstuff, bread prices in Hungary were 71pc of the EU average and meat prices were 72pc, but dairy products were 89pc of the average. The price of tobacco was just 51pc of the average, making cigarettes in Hungary among the cheapest in the EU. The price of alcohol was 84pc of the average, but in neighbouring Romania the price was 70pc of the average, the cheapest in the EU.
