Hungary farm gate prices fall 6.1pc in 2015
Farm gate prices in Hungary fell 6.1 in 2014 after a 7.8pc drop in 2013, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said. Prices of crops fell 9.2pc as the price drop slowed from 13.7pc in 2013.The prices of livestock and animal products were down 1.1pc last year after a 3.4pc rise in 2013. Hungarian farmers’ terms of trade deteriorated by 3.1pc in 2014 in as farm gate prices fell more than agricultural input prices which dropped 3.1pc from the previous year. Farmers’ terms of trade worsened for the second year in a row. They deteriorated 9.7pc in 2013. December farm gate prices dropped 6.6pc year-on-year, with crop prices dropping 6.9pc and livestock and animal products dropping 6.2pc in twelve months. Grain prices were 8.4pc lower than a year earlier in December. Prices of industrial crops were down 2.1pc as prices of oil seeds fell 2.8pc. Potato prices dipped 39.0pc in one year. Prices of fresh vegetables rose 8.6pc and fruit prices fell 17.0pc. Live cattle prices fell 6.1pc in the twelve months to last December, hog prices were down 12.4pc and poultry prices were down 3.9pc. The farm gate price of hogs has fallen steadily since July 2014 to HUF 339 per kilogramme, its lowest level since September 2011. Egg prices rose 3.5pc and milk prices fell 6.4pc in the period. The farm gate price of milk has been falling steadily since peaking at HUF 114 a litre in February 2014, KSH said. Comparing 2014 to 2013, crop prices fell in all categories, while livestock fell and animal product prices rose. Among 2014 input prices, feed prices fell a steep 10.6pc last year, while energy and fertiliser prices fell 3.7pc and 3.9pc, respectively. The price of seeds rose, in contrast, 2.0pc, that of plant protection products rose 1.6pc and vet costs rose 1.3pc. Maintainence costs of machines and buildings were also moderately up, rising by 1.0pc and 1.9pc, respectively. Investment in machinery became 2.6pc more expensive and the price of investment in buildings rose 2.0pc in 2014.
