Magyar Cukor makes HUF 650m of investments
Magyar Cukor plans to refine 120,000 tonnes of sugar from 800,000 tonnes of sugar beet this year, Mr Hajos said. Last year, the company refined 110,000 tonnes of sugar from 740,000 tonnes of sugar beet. The refining campaign is expected to last 110 days. Magyar Cukor owns the last operating sugar refinery in Hungary. All of the other refineries were shut down after the 2007 season, when the EU slashed sugar price subsidies and offered farmers and refineries incentives to get out of the business.
