Russia gets rights to supply poultry meat to EU

Russian agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor reports that the EC has evaluated the Russian government quality and production safety control over the production of poultry products in companies that plan to export to EU countries.
„The results of the check show that Russia’s veterinary authorities can ensure that the guarantees they provide in relation to EU regulations on exports to its territory of poultry meat and poultry meat products are implemented,” the watchdog said.
Rosselkhoznadzor for several months carried out targeted efforts to establish a system for monitoring the safety of production in poultry companies interested in exports to the EU.
An EU regulation in December officially allows Russia to export poultry meat and poultry meat products to EU countries.
The Russian Poultry Union says that Russia could by 2020 increase poultry product exports to 0.5 million tonnes. Exports should reach 50,000 tonnes in 2012, compared to 40,000 in 2011. In addition, Russia may export over 75 million eggs this year.
