Spar projects 10-15pc increase in pork sales

Hun watermelon exports could reach 60,000-70,000 tonnes this year

vmHungarian farmers could export 60,000-70,000 tonnes of watermelon this year, the head of professional association FruitVeB said on public television. The melons will be exported mainly to Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, Ferenc Ledo told new channel M1. The watermelon harvest could reach 220,000-240,000 tonnes this year, he said. He put the price of watermelon at HUF 120-150 per kilogramme at the start of the season and at HUF 70-80 per kilogramme at the end of July. Farmers are growing watermelon on almost 6,000 hectares this year, about the same as last year, Mr Ledo said. Last year, the watermelon harvest reached 220,000 tonnes, FruitVeB said earlier.

sk_Hungarian mineral water bottler Szentkiralyi’s revenue rose almost 10pc to HUF 9.6bn last year, the company informed. Domestic sales climbed 8pc to HUF 8.2bn.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Tuesday called for efforts to ensure gas transports to central Europe, including Hungary, via Turkey. „We need to work to get the gas from Turkey to central Europe and Hungary” via Serbia among other countries, Mr Orban told a press conference after talks with Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. He said this would make „us able to ensure Hungary’s gas supply after 2019-20”. 

Food safety authority fines ALDI HUF 47m

zsr_Food safety authority (Nebih) has fined German-owned discount supermarket chain ALDI Magyarorszag Kereskedelmi HUF 47m for unfair distributor behaviour, state secretary responsible for food chain supervision Robert Zsigo told.

NBH suspends operating licence of Buda-Cash Brokerhaz

The National Bank of Hungary (NBH) as supervisory authority has suspended with immediate effect the operating licence of brokerage firm Buda-Cash Brokerhaz and appointed supervisory commissioners because of suspicious cases that have come to its knowledge, the NBH told. The NBH said it had also filed a criminal complaint with police over the matter. The statement said the supervisory commissioners have taken over the management of the company.

Hungary farm gate prices fall 6.1pc in 2015

kmFarm gate prices in Hungary fell 6.1 in 2014 after a 7.8pc drop in 2013, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said. Prices of crops fell 9.2pc as the price drop slowed from 13.7pc in 2013.
